Encyclopedia of metropolitan Bilbao

Bilbaopedia is a project for disseminating knowledge about Bilbao and its metropolitan area, directed by a research group from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in collaboration with a broad team of experts, sponsored by the City Council of Bilbao and the University of the Basque Country in the years 2013 and 2014. This work brings together systematized content in a clear and accessible way, by means of a digital platform that facilitates its diffusion and enables constant updating to incorporate new terms and images or to correct and expand on those already included. Thus, we are carrying out a collaborative project to make visible all of the actors of Bilbao, past, present and imagined.

The content of this innovative platform has drawn on the work Bilbao through its Mayors (1836-1979), which it uses as a basis for expanding into new thematic areas that aim to address all aspects of everyday life.

The experience of generating content on an innovative platform is conceived as an open and collaborative project, but one that is subject to peer review prior to public diffusion, conforming to international standards; this does not, however, prevent it from being participatory, on the line of proposals of Public History.
